fring for N80?

thanks for all your help omri and roy
i have finally got it working
i am unsure how to call windows live messenger contacts using fring though....
i have searched the fring forums and see one post by darren about using jabber to connect to fring to call msn contacts but with very poor voice quality
has another work around been found?

My issue is on my n80ie, I can't get past the loading screen...after my first install, it wont get past and every time i reboot, it autostarts, then crashes....

Just downloaded this today, and installed on my N80 (which I have manually flashed myself to N80ie frimware).

Works great here in the Philippines, over my home wireless network and using Skype.

I agree the volume is too low, and that the volume increase decrease function does not work.

Great program

I cant wait to try this when I receive my N80ie. Since I don't have a landline I'm reducing my mobile plan and I just signed up for the unlimited Skype out plan for 15 bucks for the year. I think it just changed to 30 but still not bad.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the input it is vital for us and with your help, the product will become better.

Regarding the volume: we are working on it and will try to improve the level and control as soon as possible.

Head's up about MSN: our guys are working on it, and if all goes well we will release it with in 2-3 weeks (I hope)

Thanks again for your insights

I still have problems with Gtalk and chat. I get the little "tingle" sound several times and the screen flashes like it's refreshing, but i don't get any messages from the other person.

Also, I can't type while that's happening. It deletes anything I type while it's "tingling"

Hello abhi,

we have designed and optimized fring for 3G networks, indeed when using fring over EDGE or GPRS fring will work fine, but you (as you have noted) might experience slight delay (latency). Obviously it is also relate to the other party network speed.

Regarding the GTalk 'lost' messages (while there is vocal indication) that Rcaddan is experiencing....I will ask our GTalk team to have a look at (reproduce it in house and than find what is the issue).

Thanks
Roy

Just happened: other party can't see my skype chat messages. I see his messages. Voice call works meanwhile.

Btw, does this app use the same codec for every bandwidths? I couldn't recognize too much difference in sound quality between 3G (~300kbit) and WiFi (~2Mbit)

Hi Guys,

"....With the fring server update, we?re now supporting the Microsoft network (MSN). Yes, yes, I know, fring is the only mVoIP application to do real P2P VoIP and support Skype, GTalk and MSN....." (from the fring blog)

freakin yes. Now I have a question:

Is there a better way to update this software rather than uninstalling and re-registering on the website? Is there a chance you could implement a "check for updates" in the settings, and then be able to download the update and install it?

Or, since apparently we're connecting through your server, why not detect the version and push the update suggestion to the phone, so that when I start Fring, if there's an update, it'll pop up and say, "there's an update, would you like to install it?" or something like that.

Hate to bring this thread back form the dead, but I have just encountered a problem:

I can no longer make skypeout calls where as it was working before. I have the unlimited skypeout calling plan to Canada and US, so maybe fring doesn't recognize this as it was probably only using the "free" credits that skype gives you when you first sign up.

Anyone have any ideas?

(I just updated to 2.74 and didn't help the problem)

Hi Newtype2011,

Hope you have a sunny weekend

I have never had issues with Skype out 'credit' not being recognized. I will have on of our guys have a look and post our intake.

I concur with this. I had it but then I reset my phone and now I don't have it anymore. It's very annoying since even though Cingular cannot get SMS on my phone on time my wifi support works fine so it would be nice if I had an easier way to get the damn app on my phone.

QUOTE=anville]Has anyone here been able to download fring for the N80? The have the SMS-to-get-the-download-link system, but of course it doesn't seem to want to send me one. Not much response from the fring support, other than asking for my number again.

For those who did get it, how's it work?
x2

There should be a way to get this app installed on the phone other than a SMS link... I'm not subscribed to any GSM provider right now so there's no phone number that I can give out for a SMS... this has restricted me from using Fring...

The SMS-only-link is restrictive...
Hello,
I'm using it on my E61 (the skype portion of the app), and I'm noticing a delay of roughly 1 second. Anyone else notice this as well, or is it an issue on my end?

Cheers,
Rob
