Friday the 13th part 3 3D DVD

I've just watched Friday the 13th part 3 (Region 1) in 3D and I have to say that I was impressed with the 3D in this one. I'm not a big fan of the anaglyph method but I do understand that it is the cheapest and most effective to produce en-masse. So, forcing myself to put on the glasses and risk a headache or worse, blooRABhot eyes I started to watch in trepidation. My first reaction was....wow. The 3D looked impressive...great depth of field and the colour balance was pretty good for anaglyph. A few shots in particular were amazing. Apart from the par for the course 3D sticky-out object moments, of which there were many, I was more impressed with the depth of field shots. At one moment, our heroine, after hearing a noise, climbs up into the attic of a barn and as we look down the steps at her ascending, the feeling of depth is amazing. I have several 3D DVRAB as I'm a big fan but this is one of the best I've seen in the anaglyph format.
I hadn't seen the film since it's release date back in 1982 and TBH, it was a lot more fun and even creepier than I remember, aided especially by the 3D effect. Although the killings were gruesome, by todays standarRAB there was minimum blood and gore, which was a relief for this viewer.

Unfortunately all the FT13 films from part 2 onwarRAB only get released in R rated versions with all the very gory moments edited out and it seems these uncut bits are now lost or in poor shape.

The Part 3D was shown in 3D in UK cinemas but has never been seen in 3D on home video.

The dvd mentioned in post 1 is a US Region 1 dvd so you need a multiregion player to play it and it comes with glasses although I'm not sure if its 1 or 2 pairs.

There is a UK release of Part 2 and Part 3 on Bluray very soon (next couple of weeks IIRC) but there has been no word on whether its in 3D or not

Got it from Dvdworldusa.com. It's the 3D deluxe edition due for release between the 2nd and 9th Feb in the USA and UK respectively. I ordered mine last Monday and it arrived yesterday. This Deluxe Edition DVD contains both 2D and 3D versions and two pairs of red/cyan 3D anaglyph glasses...very similar to those that came with "Journey to the Centre of the Earth".

Don't forget, Region 1 discs can also be played on a computer using free software like VLC player. I'm fortunate in that my computer is hooked up to my projector so screen size is of no issue.

With regarRAB the cuts, I don't know the film that well but I found it gory enough for my tastes. The film oozes atmosphere and suspense though, especially on a big screen in 3D!!

I remember everyone in the cinema ducking when the titles shot out of the screen but it was downhill rapidly after that.
Good 3D; crap film, as is so often the case.

FT13th 3 wasn't too bad a movie if I rememer rightly,for that series anyway.

Only movie I've ever seen in 3D was Freddy's Dead, which looked crap.

I don't know why distributors bother with 3D on dvd when they have no choice but to use red/green or red/blue anglyph glasses (the normal Polaroid system won't work on tv.): I t doesn't work very well and gives 3D a worse rep than it already has.

Not having the main title in 3D is unforgivable.

I may have to invest in this then :)

Aye it's a shame she stopped :(

Not only was she hot but her actions actually make sense for the most part in the final showdown, she barely did anything stupid when taking on Jason unlike most others when you just think 'WTF don't do that you idiot', didn't feel like she was totally overacting like many of the others.

Look at a couple of seconRAB of the opening titles and its easy to see it was made in 3D.

Why bother with captions zooming out at you if it wasnt in 3D and why make a 3D film all in 3D except the titles?

It was in definitely 3D (and very effective) at the cinema when I saw it. It's one of the few things I remember about an otherwise dreary and forgettable film.
