Awesome read! Gotta love the small communities. They have to hold onto the tools because of the a-hole selling stolen property. If he had tried selling the truck and it changed hands, it would be in an impound right now.

Wow. At least they caught him, you would have been more upset about this if he got away with it. So I guess you have to look at the brightside. On another note quite an entertaining recount of the events, I suppose he had to be dumber than a bag of bricks to think that nobody would notice in a small town.

This story is so fucked I don't know how to continue it. I've got bits and pieces, but making them fit together isn't working quite right.

The dude who ratted on the thief was also fingered by the Thief's woman as being an accomplice. Supposedly however, this was an impossibility as during the time in question,( between 1-5 a.m. on Friday Morning) Rat Dude was in jail in the next county. Rat Dude and Thief know of each other from the next county, where they lived in the same area.

Apparently the cops can easily figure this out, as it takes only a phone call. Cops do not appreciate being lied to, and Thief-lady is further questioned. At some point it comes out that dad's truck was driven to another town about 20 miles away (which would explain the extra 40+ miles dad thought was on the odometer) to pick up a juvenile at 3 a.m. from a gas station. Thief tells Gas Station Brat, "I'm driving as stolen truck." This, however, doesn't deter GSB from hitching a ride anyways. We've no idea who the juvenile is.

Rat Dude happens to be living with a ladyperson who lives on our road, nearer the highway. RatDude's ladyperson was looking for theif's place of residence on Thurday evening at about 10pm because she was supposed to pick someone up from there, and mistakenly stopped by Babysitter Lady's house instead. Whom or what the real motives were, we still do not know.

The Juvenile's statement led to the cops thinking that dad's truck may be on camera at the gas station, thus allowing auto-theft charges to be placed on Thief Dud.

On Wednesday, I was informed that in all probability I could re-claim my tools on Thursday.

Upon receiving my air tools on Thursday, I got updated on the situation:
  • Charges had been filed on Wednesday pertaining to possession of stolen property.
  • On Thursday, charges pertaining to the theft of dad's truck were filed.
  • The guy is in jail without bond, and even had he received a bond, he would have to be transported to the next county where he's also wanted. Basically, he can't get out of jail at this point no matter what.

A credible link still hasn't been established between dad's truck and the grocery because the investigating officer at the grocery really botched things up and didn't take pictures of either the footprints that had a high probability of matching the one's in dad's driveway. Nor did they either take the tiretool used to force the way in as evidence or even take pictures of it.

The middle-aged-worker-lady at the grocery, however, found a pack of cigarettes she claims could only have been touched by her and the thief. This was turned in as evidence to my knowledge. If it leads anywhere is beyond me.

I think that's all that happened so far...

TL;DR
I GOT MY TOOLS BACK

OoOoOOoh a scandal within a scandal.

This is an awesome story that would have never happened, had this happened in my city. I, too, must compliment your writing steez.

Ha ha the crack house people?

Well, at least it will clean up your street a bit.

Crime in small towns does not pay. Not at all. Unless you are really smart, which this guy ain't.
