Frequent throwing up

hi..
a friend of mine has this problem that he throws up regularly (from what he's told me about three times a week on average)
this is a permanent condition for him, and has been for a few years now (i'm not sure how many..i'd have to ask that)
he ended up in hospital once because he wouldn't stop throwing up, and they found nothing wrong with him..
neither of us have any idea why he keeps throwing up..it isn't self-induced, and he tries to keep himself from throwing up all the time..but doesn't manage..
the only things i can still think of are possibly an allergy to something in what he eats? although surely the hospital would've thought of that?
or that it is because of phsycological reasons..though i wouldn't know which..
from what i know, he doesn't eat much, and when he does eat, he often ends up throwing up..
i'm hoping to hear some suggestions as to what could be wrong with him, and what he can do against it.
thanks
El

Since there is no medical reasons found for him vomiting all the time then it is psychological and he needs to see a Psychiatrist that specializes in Anorexia/Bolemia. Some where in his head is the reason for his vomiting. It is a tough diagnosis to deal with and one that will take a long time to get over. good luck.

sorry for my very late reply D:
hmm
i see =/
he won't be happy to hear that lol
can it be that he's subconsciously anorexic/bulemic?
because he definitely isn't consciously such ^^
i'll pass on the message anyhow..and hope he follows your advice =S

thanks :]

He should do some reading on something called Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome. Its a diagnosis of exclusion. Meaning they cant find an actual illness etc. It can be controlled, although it cant be cured.
I suggest you put it in google and check out the info that you find.

i see ^^
thank you very much for that :]
it's rather interesting..does sound pretty fitting..

the only part that bothers me is:
(quote from wikipedia)

"Several other medical conditions can mimic the same symptoms, and it is important to rule these out. If all other possible causes have been excluded a diagnosis of CVS may be appropriate."

now i'm wondering..what would these OTHER conditions be?

just so we really can rule out anything else :]

Hello ElHs~
Do you know what testing your friend has had? Has he seen a Gastro doc yet for testing?

Gastoparisis (lower stomach and or small intestine paralysis) can also cause random vomiting. With GP food is not digested normally (very slowly and for some not at all), sits in the stomach too long and becomes rancid...so up it comes. It is sometimes called 'Bell's Palsy of the Gut' when associated with certain infections. There is another nervous system condition (vegas nerve) that causes vomiting...I can't remember the exact name but it is when the neuro muscles at the top of the stomach are over active.

Also, food allergies/sensitivities is another possibility for random vomiting. Conventional allergy testing is not very reliable though. In my experience (for what it's worth) alternative testing and treatment is far more successful.

Parasites can also be a cause...as well as not enough good bacteria (probiotics) in the gut.

Hope he feels better soon!
