Free RAM to use the 'Save' Command in Photoshop?

I'm runnin Adobe Photoshop CS5 in Windows 7, I have an Alienware M17 with 3gig of RAM and am working on a large image for class. I've tried closing all my applications and processes that aren't nessesary for my use and the computer still won't even allow me to access the SAVE AS menu, or even click the SAVE option.

I did a panaramic image, saved it as a PSD file, then loaded that file into Photoshop CS5 Camera RAW for toning, retouching, and making it look nicer. Not sure if this was just too much for my computer to handle or what.

Can anyone tell me how I can free up the RAM I need? Just have to save this file lol
I'm sure this is not a malware problem as I have the Professional version of Avast and when I clicked the save button, a pop-up came up and said that I do not have enough RAM to complete the requested action.
