Free dvds in this week's/weekend's papers

Free in tomorrow's Daily Telegraph:

'Saturday Night, Sunday Morning' (Albert Finney)

Free in the Sunday Telegraph

'A Taste of Honey' (Rita Tushingham)

So, a great weekend for lovers of neo-realist sixties kitchen-sink dramas!

Yes, all of these 4 titles have been newspaper freebies in the past.
The MAIL has given away 'THE IPCRESS FILE'
(The Ipcress File & Brief Encounter), 'THE FOURTH PROTOCOL' (The Eagle Has Landed & The Fourth Protocol) and 'A ROOM WITH A VIEW' only a few months ago in their British Classics Costume Drama Collection.
'CABARET' was with both The MAIL and The MIRROR.
Considering that last month's offering was Another Country & ON GOLDEN POND (previously out twice!), and To Die For & The EAGLE HAS LANDED, it's a bit disappointing, and following after the news of The Mail.

A note to The TELEGRAPH: MUST TRY HARDER!

Just watched this film - don't remember when it came out (1980's?) - but a good entertaining watch. The Middle Ages are wonderfully done. Good direction & photography.

Yes, a bit of an odd one isn't it? Usually its an episode or two in an attempt to promote the box sets available.

Giving away a whole series is a whole new ball game. I guess perhaps from the papers point of view they may feel they can hold the extra readers for longer?

Just watched BBC NEWS 24 newspaper review at 10.52pm Friday...looks like no DVD's are being given away this saturday in the papers. The Daily Mail is giving an Advent Calendar (erm...Xmas!!!! its only Oct 21st!!!). Telegraph is giving away 'Horrible Histories' CD....whatever that is.

Was in my local newsagent tonight, there was a pile of tv mags with clockwise in them, think it was news of the world mag(are these mag,s sent in advance before the paper?)So looks like Northern editions are good for this dvd on Sunday.

I don't know if anyone saw that the Daily Mail appeared to be extending its Elvis DVD offer for a further week with a further 6 titles. Having looked at this more carefully, rather than collecting the DVD's each day from Tesco or WHS, this is actually a postal offer only. At first look, it appears as if they want 5 vouchers plus 2.99 for the set but it actually (I think) requires 5 vouchers plus 2.99 per film.
Can anyone clarify if I have got this right or not?
It strikes me as if there is a potential trading standarRAB issue in terms of having a free dvd offer one week then in Saturday's paper, it is worded on the cover to suggest that the offer has been extended by popular demand only to then make it clearer inside that there is a cost involved.
Not too happy about the way they have dealt with this - it feels a bit shabby.

Just to point as this has been raised on other forums. The Mail makes it look like you are getting a complete series, you aren't.

It tells you today "here, episode by episode, is the FULL, compelling story that will unfold with each days Mail". It also says you can "build your own definitive 14 volume WaW collection". It gives the impression you are getting the whole thing and there's nothing to say you are not (nothing to say you are either I know!)

But you actually get 14 out of the total 26 episodes made. Seems bizarre to me to give away around half of a series. The disks advertise the full box set but who's going to collect 14 disks and then go out to buy the full box set? Not impressed with the way the Mail has worded this collection.

Free James Bond dvd in News of the World this weekend - footage from Casino Royale plus 'Bond Girls are Forever' feature.

Guess an entire Bond film might be too much to expect!

Thanks so much for this tip! My husband bought the Mail today and was disappointed to find it wasn't going to be the whole series - after reading your posting, I checked the UKTV History listings and found that the whole series starts a repeat run on Monday, with one episode a day, apparently showing at 1pm, 6pm and 11pm, plus of course the re-showings on UK History + 1! I hadn't realised they were showing it - no need to buy the Mail or fork out for a box set now.:)
