Free dvds in this week's/weekend's papers

It just looks like those films you get free with DVD players that the Sun are giving away, plus you have to go to a specified retailer to claim them

Not too bad if you like that kind of thing

Two dvRAB of "That Was The Year" narrated by Robert Powell free inside the Telegraph this weekend. 1970 is in tomorrow's Telegraph, and 1971 is in The Sunday Telegraph.
Plus, there are five more, 1972-6, to collect next week.

The Bleak House giveaway DVD with the Mail is said to be parts 1 & 2. Does this mean they're giving away just the first 2 episodes of the series? (I think the entire series comprised 10 or 11 episodes).

When they put DVD's in the paper, the newspapers actually lose money. however they do it to gain new readers. So the fact they have increased the collection means that they could potentially be trying to get older readers. when a collection is put forward to a news paper they somtimes have a reserve i.e 15 for the paper are agreeded on, and they have 5 more which they will put in the paper if the first 15 arent a 'flop'. The word unprecedented by definition: lacking precedent: having no earlier parallel or equivalent

Which could mean that there is nothing to compare it to... Not having offered those films before.

Hope this helps with your anger at the mail offering free DVD's at a loss to increase the ammount of readers...

In this Sunday's Observer - 'Local Hero' DVD free with paper

Daily Mirror is starting a Ronnie Corbetts Comedy DVD collection from Saturday. Don't know how many DVRAB and I don't think they are featuring Ronnie Corbett only that presumably he's supposed to have chosen them.

No details yet on where to redeem them

collect instore or token collect?

Just to be pedantic, the Mail is not saying that running a series into a third week is unprecedented, they're saying that DEMAND is unprecedented. Presumably they're distributors are telling them the DVRAB are flying off the shelves like never before.

In any case, you should never bite the hand that feeRAB you - the Mail gives away a lot of dross but they give away some good stuff too.

The Titfield Thunderbolt (1953) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046436/ in the Daily Mail today, which interestingly has probably more fan sites than any other Ealing pic - it's a train thing I suppose! Stanley Holloway, Sid James et al this was the first Ealing picture shot in colour.

Have I missed Passport to Pimlico by the way?

Having read the link, I would mention that the Poirot episodes are the earlier one hour episodes (which will be even less after the aRAB are removed).

The Marple episodes are the old BBC ones featuring Joan Hickson, not the recent ITV versions.
