Free DVD Rental Trials

As you may be aware the company that owns ScreenSelect, Video Island, merged with LoveFilm back in April, and a few weeks ago the ScreenSelect brand was completely absorbed into LoveFilm.

This was bad news for people like to advantage of free trials, as ScreenSelect and LoveFilm offered the two best trials around, and now you can only obviously only have one trial. Despite that though, in theory the merger should turn out to be a very good thing for customers, as the new service will hopefully take on the best qualities from each of the two formerly excellent branRAB.

There were some reports immediately following the integration that their service was suffering as a result, but these teething problems seem to have since been sorted out. Has anyone got any recent experience of their service?

The web is awash with horror stories re this company and the drastic decline in service. Things appear to have taken a drastic turn downward. I can testify to this myself. I was with SS and overall happy. Then the turnaround got slow and finally stalled. After a week without any dispatch I cancelled. Lovefilm then re-activated my account a week later so that they could take another months money. From what I have been reading elsewhere this kind of behaviour is not unknown for this outfit. I have moved on to Blockbuster but would be interested to hear others' thoughts.

The problem is there's a mixture of reports with one group of people complaining about non-delivery of discs etc., and another group who have yet to experience such "failings".

I would question why there is this difference to start off with.

I have had nothing but good service off Lovefilm so far, if anything the turnaound and frequency of getting your top choices has improved since the merger with Screenselect.

I had several free trials within the same company, found that didn't check address, just credit card and or email, so signed up with different email addresses and card details.

I too found SS (Tesco DVD Rental) to be great to start with, but then turned bad after being with them for sometime.

Happy with blockbuster at the moment.

Tesco is run by Screen Select / Love Film. You get an identical service as you would from SS, all that is different is envelope the discs come in, the discs themselves are the same discs issued by the same people all in the same system, just slightly cheaper.

I was with them for some time, at first they were great, but coming to around 12 months later, it started to get slower and slower at the turnaround, discs would be damaged due to changing the way they were packaged, discs started to not turn up, I no longer thought it was value for money. So switched to blockbuster.
