Free Androids on t-mobile tomorrow. What's the best?

So since T-Mobile is giving away all smartphones Friday the 11th and Saturday the 12th, I'm thinking about upgrading my tired G1. What's the best/most future-proof/mod-able one they have? I'm looking at the MT4G for its processor & ffc but crave the pure android OS & I haven't found a stable ROM from the Cyanogen team. The G2 looks slick but its a little lacking in hardware dept.

Thoughts?

whoa great news. I too am on a tired G1 and looking to upgrade. Great news on the free android!.
And yes I too am split between those 2 variants. Not really a fan of the Samsung S. Too big and too much like the iPhone. I like the keyboard on the G2, but I also like the bump in hardware on the MT4G, but i DONT like, or at least too much, how the MT4G looks. Although i do like that it is a bit smaller.

Choices.

This debate is a tough one.

Can you post a link to more info about this -- I realllly need a new phone as well (still on a G1) and this is intriguing.

EDIT: i found it. Thx anyway

so after much research, it seems like the MT4G is slightly if not more, better than the G2. However if you NEED that keyboard then the G2. I'm still not sure....

Just to chime in, after holding and using a G2 it didn't seem like it could withstand a drop. Like if I dropped it, it would fall to pieces. On the other hand, the MT4G was very solid.

I know you don't PLAN on dropping your phone, but I'm just saying

Dropped my G2 5 times and its still perfect. I do have a hair line crack on the back but overall, the G2 is pretty solid as well. My MT3G does feel more solid though but that's because of the lack of a keyboard.

T-mobile has a nice case for it. It actually works well and the buttons seem easier to push, if that makes sense lol.

Keep the comparisons coming... I need help making a decision between the G2 and the MT4G.

I have a full upgrade but I'm passing on any of the phones right now. There's a phone that should be released in about a month I'm interested in.

And a rumored phone from HTC that I really want.

HRMM... seems I'm always going to be a step behind, maybe I'll get one of these(MT4G or G2) for free now and extend and then look into one of those phones when they come out and buy it outright...

That's actually not a bad idea. You could even sell your new phone and your old G1 on eBay to help cover the non-subsidized price of whatever comes out in the next few months. A quick search shows MT4Gs going for $350 and G1s going for over $100 (unlocked).

Not sure exactly but its their in-house brand. Think it cost around 20 and its well worth it. I can post pix later when I get off work. I'll also stop by t-mobile and upload a pic of the case in its packaging. :-)

IMO, the G2 is the way to go but I'm partial to real keyboards. The MT4G is easily one of 3 best Androids availble now and it has the FFC. Either one is a good choice, I have both and rarely use the MT4G. But, there are some monsters coming next week.
