Freddie Mercury v Queen?

Do you think Freddie Mercury was bigger than Queen itself?
Do you think he would have made it without Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon?
 
queen is just such a unique band but freddie mercury and the crew brought it all together. they can still sing great with out him today but not as good. and i think he could of made it with out them with his great voice but he made queen queen

That's a tough question and also a good one.

Freddie had undeniable talent. Perfect showman and the best frontman of all time in concert. Now Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon (underrated beyond belief) were good musicians but if they hadn't found Freddie then would they be still around as a band?

I would put my money on that they would all be session musicians if Freddie wasn't in the picture and Freddie would have appeard on stage/broadway, if not having a solo career.

So, I would say Freddie was bigger than Queen itself.

I think Freddie was bigger than the band, but he didn't want it that way. He even said in interviews that there was no leader, that they all four were equals in the band. Whether he liked it or not though, Freddie was the one thing that kept Queen in the spotlight.

Tough to say if he would have been as huge on his own. They were all in bands at some point before Queen, but as far as I know those bands were never big. I think Roger and Brian would have been session guys, maybe breaking out into something bigger. I would guess that Freddie would have made it, his talent is undeniable. I couldn't say for sure, but it would be a safe bet that Freddie would have gone on to big things without them. John Deacon probably would have been just fine never being in a band, he never really liked the spotlight anyways.
