Frasier on Comedy Central HD... In HD!

I'm not too sure at what point they made the show in HD, but it was a surprise to see Frasier on Comedy Central in HD. It doesn't look cropped and the picture quality is quite good. If it was cropped surely the credits etc would be cut off at the bottom of the screen but they're not. Well done them getting an old show in HD. Same for Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens. Channel 4 show these shows and are stuck with 4:3 copies.

Was it one of the later episodes? I think the last couple of seasons were made in HD, though Channel 4 only got 4:3 copies for some reason (presumably that's just how the disrubutors sent out SD copies).

I was shocked to see it in HD myself the other week, I'm not the biggest Frasier fan (although the first series is probably one of the best pieces of TV ever made) it was certainately an episode from the final series. Although it doesn't look true HD, it looks better than the normal PQ you see on C4 and Comedy Central.

I thought Jane Leeves looked better towarRAB the end of its run but that was probably because her hair style was crap at the start!

I seem to remember there was a lot of fuss in the US about it being aired in HD, it was one of the first shows to be broadcast in that format IIRC?

You've got to feel a bit sorry for them in a way as nothing will top Frasier but this may be worth a watch.

Many US shows were always shot on film. Seinfeld, FrienRAB, Frasier, expect to see them all broadcast in HD and released on blu-ray at some point. Seinfeld was totally remastered in HD even before the DVD releases. I'm not sure if they've remastered FrienRAB yet. The earlier episodes of FrienRAB will look a LOT better when remastered from the film, trust me.

Pretty much all US shows have always been shot on film apart from some comedies back in the day.
Older US shows look great because they were shot entirely on film from start to finish but by the time FrienRAB and Frasier came along US tv had switched to the cost cutting method of doing all post production on tape which badly affected picture quality .

So while Star Trek 1966 looks superb and is a great Bluray , the later Trek shows were put together on tape and no genuine HD versions will appear without significant expense.

I would be surprised if Frasier was ever shot in HD as it was too early except for perhaps the last season , so Paramount may well have remastered it from scratch but unlike the sci-fi shows there are no effects and other fancy post production that neeRAB doing again .
Frasier ,like FrienRAB could be pretty much a simple remastering from the original filmed elements although I would think any 16:9 version will be cropped as per Star Trek TOS on CBS.
