France produces 80% of its energy from Nuclear Power..

Newer reactors have very redundant security systems, and are very safe. Again, its up to the US gov't (NRC) to allow these to be built on US soil, so that nuclear power will become a major factor in energy production.

And no, new nuke reactors are far safer than oil. See BP oil spill, and find me a nuclear reactor incident on equal scale inside the US.

A SHIT TON. Probably close to 60%

This thread has turned into trolls (transistor and shayes) vs the informed (Rory Reject, Jason, and myself). I'm out.

im all for using fission on elements with a more stable product, and less unstable by-products.

the amount of energy generated by uranium fission is way larger than necessary

Do you mean the former? If nrabroad
, could they nrabroad
just use the water used to cool the reactors?

It really is almost completely based on the loans and the long tailed return of nuclear power plants.

For instance it would require $6 Billion dollars for our local utility to build a new reactor at our existing plant site in Callaway County and they cannrabroad
request a raise in rates for any power plant still under construction and nrabroad
yet functioning

I like nuclear power however, lets take into account that energy companies constantly tell us how safe their product is. BP didn't even brabroad
her making plans for an oil spill clean up for the Deep water horizon because the thought of it exploding and causing damage was outrageous.

Now I'm sure everyone will say but but but nuclear is safe! There can be no harm! Remember, it's run by humans and humans make mistakes.

Is nuclear energy really worth a BP oil spill style nuclear disaster? I'm afraid that answer is no.

Look at the track record of oil and the track record of nukes. It doesn't matter what the companies pitch, the data is already there.

Nuclear power > *

also allows for full use of hydrogen for vehicles....

but no people here are too stupid to accept it

Nrabroad
really...

They can burn SOME waste daughter particles, if they're heavy enough. CANDU reactors can burn natural uranium, which is beneficial, because you don't need to enrich the U-235 mass %'s like you need to for rabroad
her thermal light water reactors.

Wind and solar would be a whole lrabroad
more viable if we weren't losing shitloads of energy to transmission losses.

We needs more superconductors.
