fractured-fused L5

Hello, I had L4 L5 fusion Jan. 09 and June of this year bent slightly and fractured my L5. Wore a back brace for 2 months and the pain in my back and legs became unbearable. Stopped the brace and 3 days later my legs are on fire and the pain in my back, again unbearable. I am 54 and started calcium supplements. Has this happened to anyone? The surgery never helped and I have an appt. tomorrow with a pa. I don't tolerate meRAB and just wanted info before appt. Thanks to anyone who can respond. Also, has anyone had vertebroplasty done and did it help. Many thanks.
 
Hi rosarymaker. I'm sorry you are in so much pain. It doesn't sound like you are too happy with your present medical care. Have you considered switching doctors or at least getting another opinion on what can be done? Have you had a new MRI? It sounRAB to me, and this is just my opinion, that you have some nerve impingement and it is causing your legs to burn.

That happened to me a few years ago and surgery took care of that problem. My legs hurt so bad that I could do nothing but rock back and forth from the pain and my pain meRAB didn't help at all.

Which pain meRAB have you tried that you can't tolerate? Is it the same reaction to each of them? It's possible that there is either a pain med that will agree with you, or you could try something like lyrica or neurontin to help. But if it is truly nerves being pinched, surgery is the only answer. If I'm wrong and you are happy with your doctor, get ahold of him right away. Otherwise, I would suggest find an Orthopedic Spine Specialist and give that a try.

Thank you Carol. A neuro did my surgery and he ordered a mylegram in June. He said I maybe irritated a nerve and my leg pain was damaged nerves and take Lyrica and live with it. I took my scans to a very reputable orthopedic surgeon and he found the fracture, ordered the brace and told me I was still healing from my fusion. Also take Lyrica. I have tried many meRAB and don't want to be a zorabie as I don't tolerate meRAB well at all. I don't know what to expect tomorrow and hate the thought of spending the rest of my life on meRAB that imped my abilities to think and be productive as my life has already come to a complete halt. I have been homebound with pain for 10 years but this is very different. Thank you so much for caring and God bless you all.
 
Hi everyone. Went to the ortho and he ordered a bone scan and was concerned about the severe leg pain. Also told to get back in the brace. Has anyone had this scan and do you know what it involves? He will know more about how to treat me after the test. Thank you all.
