FOX Talkback - Family Guy (Season Premiere) "Blue Harvest" (Spoilers)

The Family Guy Star Wars parody was great, but I liked the 1998 Animaniacs/Pinky and the Brain Star Wars parody ("Star Warners" - which is on the Pinky and the Brain Volume 3 DVD set) the best.

I love that Meg was the Dionaga - remember, this is Peter's version of the story. Of course that's all she gets!

In the cantina scene, there were only two aliens NOT from the original Star Wars sequence: Roger, and a long-headed monster drinking through his tongue. Anybody know what that monster was? It had to be a reference, being the only other non-star-wars alien shown.

Gee, after two days I sort of forgot about all I wanted to say here.

I did like the references to "Airplane!" and "National Lampoons Vacation." According to the end credits, they really did get Chevy Chase and Beverly DeAngelo for that one.

I've noticed there was no opening theme in this ep. I wonder if all eps will be that way this season or if that was just for this particular episode. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Everyone was cast very well. Except again, I could have seen Joe as a crippled Obi rather than using Herbert. Though Stewie as Vader worked really well because it reminded me of the evil Stewie from earlier years. Only this time, people know about it.

I also liked when Chris shot the Bruce-like character. If only that were real.

Brian/Chewie going in after the pig ear was a good part too. It reminded me of my dog. Though I was sort of expecting to hear "Would you do it for a Scooby Snack?" Anyway, I'll have to think of more to say later on. I guess I sort of have a mental block or something because I just can't remember what all I wanted to write about here.

I didn't read through all 7 pages of comments, but can pretty much tell that I'll have the minority opinion here.

I watched a litle less than half of the Family Guy Star Wars parody, then switched it off. It was mediocre at best.
One of the biggest flaws (aside from not being even the slightest bit funny) was that it was barely a parody. It was so loyal to the source material that it looked like Star Wars performed by the cast of Family Guy. In other words, it was like hearing a cover version of a song where they don' t do anything interesting with it.

People are so infatuated with Star Wars that they have no perspective on it. The fact that it's Star Wars does not in itself make it funny. Something has do be done with it.

The Robot Chicken take on Star Wars was much funnier, better written, and took significantly greater risks with the source material.

Put it this way: If this special were anything like the cutaways where something is reenacted EXACTLY the way it was originally, only with Family Guy characters taking their places (I'm mainly thinking of the Liar, Liar recreation, Stewie's "Twelve", the Paula Abdul music video, etc.), I would've hated it. This special wasn't anything like that. Even though they acted out the same scenes from the movie, there were more than enough dialog changes and twists to famous moments that it didn't feel like a lazy, frame-for-frame copy.

That said, I do agree that the Robot Chicken special had more variety to it, and because it didn't follow the movie like the FG special did, you didn't know what to expect next.

I thought this episode was awful. Instead of the movie being a homage or parody it felt like a rip off. I'd say about 95% of the episode was an animated SW with slight dialogue change.

Loved it, but I was disappointed by 2 major flaws:

1. Adam West as Tarkin - was really looking forward to this but he barely did anything worth while.

2. Greedo - I can't believe they didn't even make a passing mention at the "Han shot first" controversy! That was the one big moment I was waiting for and then Peter just shoots him and walks away.
