Fox and Futurama

The Futurama series DVDs and DTV movies have sold just as well as the Family Guy DVDs if not better. The show did well enough ratings-wise on Adult Swim, that Comedy Central payed nearly $30 million to acquire the broadcast syndication rights for all 72 Episodes (the largest and most expensive acquisition in the network's history).

And, NO! It would not be excessive for them to renew the series. If it wasn't excessive for them to bring back Family Guy, than it won't be excessive to bring back Futurama.

You sound like a FOX corporate spokesman feeding us weak excuses and B.S.

I understand you really like Futurama and it is a good show but no the DVDs have sold nowhere near the amount Family Guy has, the DTVs bottomed out at around $7 million which is fantastic money for a DTV but the Stewie Grifin DVD sold almost $50-60 million I believe if not more and that isn't an insult to you or the fans, it's just numbers. I'm not a spokesman for FOX, I am just stating fact. As a network trying to make money, of course they are going to focus on Family Guy (the more profitable entity), rather than something that might have a strong cult fanbase, but not as much mainstream appeal.

Okay I did a little more research and you were right, the family guy dvds have done EVEN better than the Futurama DVDs. The Family Guy Vol. 1 DVD set alone rivals the sales of The Simpsons Season 1 DVD set.

But, I would say the Futurama merchandise has done more than well enough to deserve at least a 13 Episode trial season like Family Guy got when it came back to FOX.

I'm not saying I want Fox to take their attention away from Family Guy for Futrama, I love Family Guy as much as Futurama. I just rather see a great show like Futurama back on FOX which already has a strong established fan base and strong DVD/Merchindise sales, than Fox giving timeslots to new unproven probably inferior shows like "Sit Down, Shut Up" or "The Clevland Show" on their sunday night Aniamtion Domination Block.

I think the main problem with the movies was that they were just that - movies. "Futurama"'s sense of humor works best in 22-minute episode form, and trying to stretch one idea over 90 minutes is clearly a challenge for the writing staff. I think a new season would probably fare better than most people seem to assume it would, since the staff would be on familiar ground and wouldn't have to weave big complex plot threads anymore.

I always found Futurama kinda of overrated anyway. Futurama for me lost it's appeal around the end of S2 beginning of S3, when it felt more like the Simpsons in space.

Futurama just din't have the long term appeal and merchandising that the Simpsons had from the beginning, Family guy had it as well, but it's style needed more years ahead in order to fit it, when it finally found it, on AS. it happens.

Futurama at the beginning was sucessful because it was a great Sci-fi parody about the future and rode along on the hype for the year 2000. after it strayed away from it and became another generic comedy.. it wasn't worth the keep. I say.. leave it as it is... only in movies.

I'm every bit supporting you man, they're just denying that Futurama is far more deserving to be on the air than Simpsons, and if that huge amount Comedy Central payed to aquire the rights isn't enough to say Futurama deserves a comeback, I don't know what is, Simpsons dug its own grave too deep for its own good, it's years worth expired now.

The Simpsons dugging it's grave and it's still an international hit? yeah right. Television is a business, not a fan wink media. Futurama might have been good earlier, but it never and it would never reach the international support the Simpsons has. (In this globalization trend, Tv shows need to appeal international and domestic.)

Just because some fans can't move on or grow up from the 90's comedy doesn't mean a show isnt sucessful. The simpsons still pulls ratings, money and good popularity world wide. Something Futurama will never reach even if it comes back.(which doesn't need to.)

According to who? What makes you think Futurama would never gain the popularity Simpsons has if it were brought back? Look at Family Guy. It was brought back and now it's popularity is equal the that of The Simpsons.
