Fox and Blue Sky presents - Rio

Is that George Lopez as the toucan guy? O_o

Anyway, the idea is certianly original and the animation is pretty nice, but with talking animals, I'd understand why some would be cautiously optimistic.

If there's one thing good about Blue Sky, their graphics are right up there with Pixar :)

Visuals looks pretty solid. Nothing that's blowing my mind, but I like the design of the characters and they seem to move well. I'm not really hooked on the story yet. It could well be fun, but I'm not feeling like I have to rush out and see it as soon as it comes out. But it's an early trailer, so there's still plenty of time for my interest to be piqued. I wasn't too crazy about the teaser trailer for Ratatouille either and I ended up liking it a lot.
 
You're not the first person to say that, but I don't see the comparison. Besides, with Newt essentially cancelled at this point, any comparisons don?t hold much relevancy. Regardless, I think this movie looks cute and I?ll keep an eye on it over the next year.
 
One thing I LOVE about Blue Sky is that their animation style really stands out from the rest. It's very cartoony and elastic and the physical animation, in particular, is always very strong (the physical animation and the overall cartoonyness is one of the things I adored about Ice Age 3).
 
Hm. Interesting and intriguing. But then again I thought the same with Despicable Me and then it's real trailer revealed and I didn't care for it anymore. I hope that doesn't happen again with this one.
 
I almost thought Desp. Me and Megamind were almost roughly the same ( they're both about villians) but Desp. Me looks a bit more interesting..

is that by Blue Sky or some other studio..? (Desp Me I mean)
 
Despicable Me is animated by Ilumitoons as stated on the teaser poster.

As for the movie we're talking about, the plot seems interesting and with Blue Sky's animation (seriously, outside of Pixar, their work is well done and definately better then Dreamworks for the most part).
 
Blue Sky's Horton was all right to an extent, but I agree wholeheartedly on their CG work being on par with Pixar. You can even use Robots as an example.
 
At least it's not another Ice Age sequel.

As for Blue Sky, they're schizophrenic in my book. Half their division pulls towards a Dreamworks pop-culture crazy aesthetic ("Robots", "Ice Age 3") and then the other half actually wants to craft Pixar-esque films ("Horton", "Ice Age").

Which half "Rio" lands on, well, we'll find out in 2011.
 
I’m trying to find the source of all of this talk claiming that Rio has a lot in common with Newt. I think people have been getting that information from Wikipedia, which states the following, but surprisingly it doesn’t have a source.

However, nothing in the official press release states that plot what-so-ever. I’m only asking because the claim that Newt and Rio are identical has been spreading like wildfire, and a lot of people online believe that’s why Pixar pulled the plug on Newt. And now there’s apparently a third animated movie, Alpha and Omega, that involves two characters being forced together to repopulate. Popular plot all of a sudden.

It seems too late to stop the rumors, not that it would have been possible in the first place, but does anybody have any actual evidence that Rio’s ultimate plot will be similar to that of Newt? It could be true – there must be a reason the male bird would go to Rio and that he’s chained to that female bird – but I think people online have fabricated things in the absence of official details.
 
Even if I don't see this film in 3D, these minutes were colorful and musical. The art should make it a guarantee nomination next year at the Academy Awards.
