Fox after 4Kids

Four possible scenarios:

1. Fox hires another indy studio to program their block. Three possible choices are Cookie Jar (yes, they would be essentially going against themselves with the e/i oriented KEWLopolis block, but with obviously more non-e/i programming), Nelvana (again, virtually competing against an e/i block they partially own, qubo, but with more non e/i programming), and Taffy Entertainment (it would be mighty strange but welcome to see Bobby's World back on Fox along with something like Code Lyoko, Invisible Man, Fantastic Four, and others). It's probably an obvious choice.

2. Fox hands control over to their affiliates, who will program the 8 - Noon slot to their whims, be it e/i shows, regular shows, or infomercials.

3. Fox gives control of the slot to Fox News, who will likely air two hours of news and three hours of e/i smeg.

4. Fox actually creates a new kids block, acquiring new shows and developing originals in-house. The longest shot, but it could happen considering the whole Inkubator initiative.

Honestly, I'm more inclined to believe that option 2 will be the most likely to occur.

It's kind of sad, but Saturday Morning Cartoons just aren't what they used to be. Kids have 'moved on' from it and the bigwigs are just not seeing any potential for a profit from them as much as they used to. Kind of like how the only non-cable cartoon blocks in the afternoon is qubo...which is on ION...on Friday afternoons...for only two hours (or was it three?).

Ah, 2 already happened for my Fox, for some reason 4Kids airs on the MyNetwork TV affiliate on Sundays. But this make me wonder if the block will continue to air on the MyNetwork TV affiliate or just fade away.

I don't think any of the 4Kids-on-Fox block is E/I-compliant, so I can easily see them bailing out completely. But ... I don't see Fox News stepping in and providing any content -- heck, there isn't a single minute of Fox News that's regularly scheduled on the Fox network as it is.

Also, there's a big gap in the wanna of Fox affiliates. I'm sure the big-market affiliates (NYC, LA, DC, Boston, Chicago, Philly, etc.) wouldn't mind doing an hour or two of local news.

But Des Moines, Wichita, Birmingham, etc., might be a different story since they might not have that hefty an operating budget to begin with.

My affiliate already does that. Heck, the local FOX hasn't aired Fox Kids since like `92. From 1992-1995 the Fox Kids line-up was aired on one of the Independent channels. Then, from `95 till `97 it aired on the brand new WB network. Seriously. On one single channel we got both Kids WB and Fox Kids. Then, from `97 till `99 it aired at another Independent channel. Finally, from 1999 till present day it airs on UPN which is now My Network TV. So...if FOX decides to stop airing cartoon I wonder what the affiliate for My Network TV is gonna do to fill in the empty slot.

Y'know, I wouldn't mind re-runs of DiC cartoons in the place of the 4Kids block. Because at least they're, y'know, cartoons. ...Even if the world needs better cartoons.

Well, the FOX affiliate in Chicago ran Fox Kids from beginning to its demise, so if Fox decided to redo animation from scratch I'm pretty certain the Chicago affiliate would take part (though the Chicago affiliate hasn't run SatAM cartoons since the beginning of the Fox Box . . . which became 4kidsTV).
