Overall I feel so much better, no pain down my leg, but my back muscles are very painful at times. Is this normal? My work isn't very understanding of me not being able to work as normal. So I'm concerned that this is in my head at times. My doctor states that I'm doing everything right and need time to heal. I'm able to walk around my house without my back brace but not able to go anywhere without it. I walk and go to physical therapy two times a week. Any advise on how long to feel normal again.

It often takes six months to see fusion...and you need to realise that this was major surgery. It can take up to a full year to feel "normal" again. But you have to realise that your new normal won't be the same as your old normal.

When you have surgery like this, nerves are moved around, and they don't like that at all. It takes time for the nerves to settle down and for the pain to settle down. This will come when the swelling inside goes down also. But it takes time for that to happen. The fact that you are back at work will also slow down your recovery time. But your doctor was right, it takes time and that is what you need to have time and patience. The pain down your butt and legs is normal and will disappate as everything heals...

good luck-and keep walking. It 's good therapy
