I was putting stepping stones between the garden beds, and the sun went down, but it wasn't cold, so I kept digging shallow grooves to put the stones in by porch light. I noticed that when I dug into the moist soil, there were glowing spots in there. I scooped a couple into my hand and took them inside, and they looked like little brown worms. Maybe grubs or larva, I don't know. I live in California right next to the ocean, so I really don't think they are the worms that turn into fireflies. What are they? I googled and googled and found no reasonable match. Has anyone found these before?
