Its a free GPS program and all you need is a GPS receiver. Here are some screenshots someone else posted

It has vocal instructions and such like tom tom

http://www.amazegps.com/?page=home

Or via wap on your phone

http://wap.amazegps.com/wap.php

The main issue I have is when trying to download it I get stuck at 336kb on my phones wap broswer.

Can someone else try to see if it downloads ok for you I want to see if north america is in there

yeah the website is spotty. Like the E61 worked, now it doesnt anymore, and it probably will later.

Just keep trying, it's a lot easier to force-resume downloads on a PC

I was having trouble downloading directly to my E61, where it would hang at about 57%... What I did to have it complete successfully, was select options and pause the download, then resume it. It worked up until 93% then got stuck again. I paused and resumed again and voila! Complete download!

hmm, does it have US maps? The site shows it as having US maps, but when I installed it earlier in the morning today, but it didn't have USA as an option. Only European nations.

btw, I downloaded it from wap.amazegps.com

EDIT: you have USA maps. You only need to change the continent in Tools.

Looks like a nice app. I don't have a BT GPS receiver to test it though. Anyone else tried it out?

I've just downloaded the app. thru the wap.amazegps.com on my N80...it installs fine. The main website is very spotty for sure.

gotta wait until I can borrow my friend's BT GPS receiver now before I can test it.

Thanks for the link

hehe...Found one limitations for US guys. I guess this will be only useful if you live in: Alabama, Arizona, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Idaho and Illinois. Those are the only states that're avail. now

oopss...sorry for the scarce there. I missed the option to choose 'other' on the state menu. Yes...all the states are there.

Got to get my eyes checked now.

Thanks again Fidorulz

I doubt you'll see free navigation anytime soon. I much prefer the one-time shot to Cingular's Telenav service. At $10/month, you're over $100 before the year is even out. TomTom for your mobile is $129, MUCH cheaper than the stand-alone units, and much more convenient, imo.

I'm talking free navigation software, ie, like AmazeGPS (assuming it works worth a darn).

Paying >$200 (software + hardware) for something like TomTom is fine if you are going to use it on a daily basis (you are a pizza delivery guy, or watever), but I think there is a much larger group of people, including myself, that would love to have navigation software once every couple of months when we are on a road trip, but aren't willing to make a major expenditure for it.

It looks like Google Maps is going to support GPS pretty soon (already does on one device). Sure its not as nice as a full navigation system, but I think it will do the job for lots of us.

Now, back on topic - Keep us posted on how you like Amaze, how does it compare to Tomtom?

Thanks -J

Honestly, I've used other systems. Started with the trial of Wayfinder that came with the GPS receiver, then used Nav4All (free) then finally got TomTom. It's real convenient, and I've found that both the S60 apps (Wayfinder and TomTom) are more accurate than Nav4All, since they're not as slow as a java app. I'll test this one a bit and see.

If GoogleMaps supports GPS soon, i'd be a big fan.

However, i like that TomTom stores the maps on my device. It means I can take a call and not be interrupted. That was a problem with Wayfinder and Nav4All, if you're out of service, you're out of luck.

My only problem with Google Maps and GPS is that Google already reads my email, know what webpages I visit (Google homepage and news reader), knows a lot of what I buy (froogle/google checkout). And now they are going to know exactly where I am and where I'm going.

I'm not particularly paranoid, but it does make me stop and go Hmmmmm....

Have you tried Mobile Gmaps? It supports GPS and uses Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, Windows Live Local (MSN Virtual Earth) and Ask.com Maps for the map details.

The main draw back of most of the applications is the need for data connections. If your in the middle of nowhere they cant help you if you have no signal. With Tom Tom and others you pre-load the maps so data connections are not needed
