Foul Odor - 1996 Dodge Stratus?

Bought a beater, it has a repugnant odor coming from the front passenger side. I've experienced this before with a clogged cat, web search isolates the clogged cat smell to that particular location for this particular vehicle.

Before I go boldly replacing parts on a beater that isn't worth putting much money into, any other possibilities that could be causing this smell?
