Forest Gump question here........is it a true story?

Its almost as stupid as my question- although its all fictional (Im sure of that), did it really happen within the context of the film, or is Forrest just 'pulling our plonkers'?

Im convinced he did it all!
 
MY favourite movie, the way it moves through the 50,60,70's is pure class and the acting is top draw. It's a fictional story which is not that intelligent really but still a classic.
 
all that stuff about how original it was, the way he was blended in with all those people.

its still a good film, but woody allen had already done a lot of that stuff in zelig.

they were going to have him being one of the first either in space or on the moon, although it would have been a step too far in my view.
