Ford Transit 2.5 Diesel injection engine.?

My freind just went off and bought this Transit, which was (we knew) a wreck, It had been left sitting for 3 weeks because of a knocking noise from the engine which is not there at idle, driving behind the bitch you really hear this radadadadadadada noise that gets worse and worse as the engine speeds up. Any ideas to the culprit

P.S, 156'500 miles, so I think he abused it.
 
I would first off say its a thrown rod, or broken rod. They are usually the common problem when it comes to a knocking noise thats gets louder as the car drives faster. You also need to make sure the oil levels are full and not leaking. Low oil levels can also cause noises, and thats usually when it has little to none in it. If you have a thrown rod and are not a mechanic yourself or don't know one, I would almost ditch the car and buy a new one. Good Luck!
