This is the story I got... While driving a 2003 Taurus the driver hit a curb at about 40mph. The airbag is located in the seat. It deployed. No other airbags did. That side didn't hit anything (like a ditch). Will this happen if nobody is sitting in the seat??

BTW The taurus has a sensor so that if somebody is not in the seat the airbag turns off.
I know that it is possible. I'm trying to see if it is PROBABLE. I'm not quite buying the story I got.

well... basic electronics. you energize the circuit, whatever the circuit was designed for, it will happen. Somehow the circuit closed whether it be a faulty sensor or switch, thus deploying the air bag. Me myself, I hate air bags. Every car i get thats the FIRST thing i rip out of my car. Im sorry, if it actually has a WARNING: EXPLOSIVE DEVICE: SERIOUS DEATH OR INJURY COULD OCCUR!

It has no place in my car!! I take my chances with the proven method of safety restraints!
