ford s max tailgate problem?

i have a ford s max which i bought brand new 10 months ago recently i noticed a thumping noise coming from the boot i took it back to the dealer who says the tailgate need to be realigned but this is not covered by the warranty is this true the estimated price to repair is 200 - 300 pounds as the tailgate has to be taken off then put back on and realigned is this correct i phoned ford costumer care who said they would give me discount but i refused this
any help is greatly appreciated
