I live in a rural area where 4wd is commonly used. I currently drive a 2002 ford ranger 4x4 4.0 vs auto. I drive every other week 120 miles a day. 70/30 highway/city. I don't really like my truck due to the auto transmission. I have wanted for quite some time a Jeep Wrangler. I was wondering what kind of trade off in gas mileage I could expect if I were to go from Ranger to Wrangler?

I get about 18 mpg combined when commuting to school. While driving near my home, I get about 15. I believe the low mileage near my home is due to the auto trans. The driving is mostly country roads, with a lot of hills and sharp corners.

If I were to go with a wrangler with a manual trans how would MPG look (I-4 & I-6 engines if you know)?

Uh, Okay.

The Wrangler would benifit you more.
Here is some information:

**l-4**
21 hwy, 18 city
Power Tech 147 hp 2.4 L I-4 DOHC

**V6**
16 mpg City, 20 mpg Hwy
202 hp 3.8 L V-6 OHV

They both have:
Great offroad capability
Standard electronic stability system

As for automatic vs manual, it won't save you much on a Jeep Wrangler. I would go with the transmission you feel comfortable with. It's a jeep. So don't except 30MPG with a manual. haha.

I hope this helps
