FORD MONDEO DIESEL TURBO. 2002 DIFFICULTY STARTING.?

MY FORD MONDEO DIESEL STRUGGLES TO START LIKE IT HAS A WEAK BATTERY. ALSO ALL THE NEEDLES ON THE DASH GO ALL THE WAY TO THE MAX AND BACK TO THEIR ORIGINAL PLACES WHEN IGNITION IS SWITCHED ON. FOR EXAMPLE SPEEDO GOES FULL TEMPERATURE AND SO FORTH FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS THEN IT DROPS BACK. I CAN BUMP START IT IF I PUSH JUMP LEADS DON'T WORK. I HAVE TOOK THE BATTERY OFF AND AM FULLY CHARGING AS IT MIGHT HELP? ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THERE IS SOME OIL IN THE WATER EXPANSION BUT OIL SEEMS FINE IN ENGINE AS IT MIGHT BE HEAD GASKET. VEHICLE NEVER OVERHEATS AND THERE IS NO DISCOLOUR OF THE OIL IN THE ENGINE.
 
Check the earth and other cables to the starter motor - sounds like a poor earth.
