ford header clearence?

i have a 1976 ford f100 and i want to get headers instead of manifolds, the only shorty headers cost 600 dollars, so would i have trouble putting in full length headers, ive heard i ma have to pull the engine for it to fit, and also, the nuts holding on the headers are rusty, will i have a problem with possibly snapping a bolt or something? and what should i put on the nuts before i go to take off the manifolds? its a 33 year old new england truck and the manifold nuts have never beed touched, thanks for all the help.

I have a 1988 ford f-250 and pulled the headers without pulling the engine so you might be able to do it. When loosening make sure to apply pressure on a 90° angle to the bolt. Bolts usually break when the get pulled towards the engine block and snap sideways. They almost never just break with just twisting force. Also go out about 30 minutes prior to removal and spray with a penetrating oil like liquid wrench. You shouldn't have any problems.
