Ford Fusion Airbag Light?

Sometimes the airbag light comes on in our 2006 Ford Fusion. Any idea why this is happening?
The light isn't always on and will go out if you turn the car off and turn it back on.
 
During star up, the car runs a diagnostics of the Air bag system, if there is a problem, then light turns on.

Not sure about your exact car make/model, but some have sensors on the front passenger side, where an underweight child should not sit. There are also sensors on the side of the seats, that detects if you are not sitting properly so side curtains would work effectively.
