Ford Focus X reg. Tick over is over-reving & sometimes cuts out when on idle.?

The yellow light on the LHS of the Dash (I think It's the immobilizer or the fuel pump light) came on. It seems to drive normally but when I engage neutral, the engine revs at up to 2500 rpm for about 15 seconds then either returns to 750 rpm or cuts out. The engine starts again without problem though the fault persists. Any ideas anyone?
