i have a 99 ford focus 1.8. i woke today to find my passenger side mirror had been ripped out (just the mirror part) with its wire hanging out, broken. the mirror frame itself was fine and there was no shattered mirror about so i assume it was just stolen.
I had to use the car for half hour so i risked it without the mirror, only to find straight away that in every gear it had no guts at all to it! every gear was sluggish with a slight humming shake!? my car felt terribly wrong. i then smelt a burning plastic smell throughout the journey, so had to take it back home. my car only a few days before this incident was no problem at all to drive and showed no signs of any problem.
i then decided to look under the engine (not that i'd really know what to look for) but noticed a cable connection hanging lower that i'd think normal. the connection was a triangle shape with 3 pin holes in it, if that makes sense? i dont know if this is of any importance or just an unused cable that needs to be tied up.
I was wondering if anyone could piece any ideas to this mystery as i dont know whats happened or what to look for. i will of course at some point take it to a mechanic.
