1. "Key tumbler" in steering colum will not turn unless you hit it a couple times (3rd time replaced, i gave up)

2. Battery light comes on, batteries do not last... the battery cables on red side have melted in 2 different spots.

3. car will somtimes not start. what i have to end up doing to get car started is take a hammer, wrench, rachet, or plyers and hit the red battery cable then eventually it will start (normally)

4. O/D off light WILL NOT GO OFF. gas mileage has dropped to nearly 5 mpg, button on gear shift WILL NOT WORK.

This model has had several recalls but when i spoke to ford they said that MINE was not involved in recall.

obviously, your mechanical skills are nil. take this car to a mechanic who knows how to fix these trivial irritations.

the reason your battery cable is melting is because you have a bad starter. i would start there. the starter is drawing so much current that it is melting your red cable wire!

The problem is you bought an American car. European cars are the best... very reliable!!!

the problem is ITS A FORD, i own one and they are like the no name brand of all cars, sure they will get the job done but bare minimum

If I has a penny for every time a Focus had a problem I could buy Bill Gates

well the problem obviously is the battery just buy a new one and ur problems will be gone. u can just take it to an auto body shop or just buy a battery and put it in yourself
