Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec- driving upto a roundabout off a motorway and........?

when i dipped the clutch to change to the lower gear when getting to the roundabout, the car sounded like it was dying on me, steering went (no power) for about 4 seconds, then 'lit' back up as though it came back to life...then speedo didnt work for 2 miles..

has anyone heard of this before? if so, what could it be...?
any halp appreciated.........
 
Sounds like an engine management problem. The guy at the MOT garage said to me "Sometimes these things just go away and it's fine, otherwise, oh dear."

Look out for other lights randomly showing on the dash, such as airbag warning or ABS. There are specialists to fix it, look in the yellow pages.
