HOW MANY TIMES SHOULD YOU FEEL THIS CAR CHANGE GEAR ? THIS BOX HAS A LOW GEAR THEN A DRIVE GEAR CANT FEEL IT CHANGE UP OR DOWN A FRIEND SAID SOME BOXES STAY IN ONE GEAR AND COPE`S WITH ALL ROAD`S A GARAGE TELLS ME IT IS STUCK IN 3RD GEAR BUT HAVE NO PROBS PULLING AWAY ON HILLS DONT NEED TO OVER REV AT ALL DRIVING AT 70 SEEMS TO BE NO PROBLEM EITHER ANY ONE OUT THERE PLEASE HEPL CANT AFFORD NEW GEAR BOX WHICH THEY QUOTED ME £700. FOR
 
I think the garage is pulling your leg. The Ford 1.6 engine is not all that grunty anyway, even when mated to a manual box.

As stated, watch the rev counter of listen to the engine and note how many times it changes. This all depends on what roads you are on of course as town use will have it hopping between gears pretty much constantly. Take it for a good drive along a good mix of roads.
 
The ford automatic box has four gears and you should only just feel it go into fourth . if you watch the rev counter you can see it changing by the way that drops and picks up again .

Not the best of automatic boxes but not the worst either !
