Ford F150 truck camper issues?

I just got a camper for free and it is HUGE! I have a Ford F150 1/2 ton crew cab short bed I have just over 8 feet with the tail gate down. This camper is made to go on a 3/4 ton at least but I thought maybe I could just get some helper springs over my leaf springs and it would level out. I went to Autozone and and found a set of two helper springs for just 40 dollars witch is good because I don't want to put to much money into this project (keep in mind I'm married, Wife will gripe at me) I installed them earlier today and drove it down the street for a test drive and the fuckers broke after the first small bump I hit. I just want it for elk hunting. Money is an issue so my question is what can if anything can I do to be able to hull this camper It would be great to hear any first hand experiences Thanks Every one!

Another alternative would be airbags in the back. Not sure what that would cost these days but I used to do that on my Dad's trucks.

Solution one is written above me.
Solution two is actually different all together.

Get a trailer and put camper body on trailer. You can unhook from it easier than unloading the camper from the bed of truck
