I live In North Dakota and our winters can be bad, I lock in my hubs in November and don;t unlock them til April. My truck has 211,000 miles on it, never had an issue. 96 Ford F250, Powerstroke/5 speed.
Absolutely! The reason that manual hubs are still used is that it can save fuel mileage to not have your hubs locked in full time. So don't worry if you think that you will need your 4X4 you can keep your hubs locked in. It is only when you have your 4 wheel drive kicked in full time on dry pavement that you will hurt your vehicle.
hey i just have a quick question. I have a 2006 F-250 Powerstroke Manual Transmission with the FX4 package. My question is about the manual locking hubs for 4x4...if i know i am going to need to be in 4wheel soon but at the time i need to be in 2wheel for road driving, can i lock the hubs in, but not shift it into 4wheel and just leave it in 2wheel and drive on roads until i need to put it into 4? is that safe to do or can i only lock the hubs when i am going into 4x4? I love manual locking hubs, just sometimes its not ideal to have to jump out of the truck when i am in mud and lock the hubs....if you have any other advice about manual locking hubs i would appreciate it alot too. thanks!
