...for finding the problem? I got a Ford F-150 and it has low miles and many new parts I got a distributor and modular I check the main ignition line. I know it has gas I sprayed some starter fluid in the intake and it started and ran I walked away to let it run for a while so I can charge up the battery off the alternator. When some atvs went by I just heard them then I see my truck not running. I have tried using starter fluid many many time from when I got it running.
Any ideas I just had the pickup at the garage to get it winter ready and know this.... I am thinking I am not getting spark I will check tomorrow and take a spark plug out with the wire on it and ground it to the head and have someone turn her over. To see if I have a ark (see electric current jump the gap).
I think the alternator is not getting power But not sure will check with volt tester tomorrow.

Tricks of the trade ideas information all welcome Need To Get Running.

If you just had the pickup truck at the garage for your annual
winterizing ( in August ? ) I would give them a call to see if they
might have some ideas for you.

Go ahead and check your spark and voltage etc... but find out
from your mechanic what was already replaced before you start
switching parts out aimlessly.

Good Luck to you

Once you get it started disconnect the battery if it stays running then it's not the alternator. Could be you carburetor

If you're smelling gas under the hood, and it starts with ether, replace the fuel filter first. It's the cheapest thing, and the most common. While you have the fuel line disconnected, try having someone crank the starter and see if it pumps fuel out of the line. That will rule out a defective fuel pump.
