Ford Explorer - Non Limited Slip Axle?

I am going to purchase a 4X4 Ford Explorer. I plan to do some off roading (nothing too serious) but some. I know most off road vehicles have a limited slip differential. The explorer has a non limited slip differential. I heard someone say once that because it has AdvanceTrac, the limited slip is not needed. I was wondering if anyone could confirm this for me or just shed some light on my question because it has me slightly concerned (I see on the ford website that the FX4 ranger and F150 have limited slip differentials).
