I have a ford escort lx-e with the 1.8l mazda engine and an automatic. I use it for a four cylinder racing series. The car is VERY slow when accelerating in Drive and Over Drive. The car is fast when I put it in low (1st), but then when when I shift into Drive, the car seems to shift straight from 1st to 3rd.
Basically it seams like the car is starting in second gear, unless I shift it into low. When I do that, the car will stay in 1st until i shift into drive, at which point it will drop from 7000rpm to 2-3000rpm, and skip from 1st to 3rd.
I just need to be able to shift into 2nd. The gear selector only has Low (1st), Drive (3rd), and overdrive (4th), so I can't manually shift into 2nd.
I checked the kickdown linkage, and the cable is not broken to the trans (have not looked internally into the trans), but it is connected correctly to the gas pedal. I have tried 3 different speed sensors, and the speedo is working (mechanical).
Just wondering if there are any more sensors or things that I can check.
Thanks.
