Hi
1st, 2nd gears really hard to engage when engine running, reverse almost impossible. Easily engaged when engine off.
Anyone got any ideas what the problem might be so when I go to a garage I'm not getting the "aye its the whole gear box, clutch and linkages needing replaced hen" when its maybe only a linkage adjustment.

Thanks in advance!
Oh and could you give me a guesstimate of the cost in £££s please?

Thanks!
I don't drive with my foot resting on the clutch pedal, I keep it well to the left with my heel on the floor. The pedal is not stiff and easily reaches the floor before I attempt to change gear.

This sounds like a clutch problem, If its clonking of crunching when you try to put the car in gear then this could be master or the slave cylinder failure. Or could just need bleeding.

If you can select all the gears when stopped,i would`nt think it was the gearbox.
Does the clutch pedal go down a long way before any pressure?,if it does, the clutch automatic adjuster may be gone.
Having said that, some have cable adjusters on the pedal, try raising the height of the pedal using this adjuster.
If the pedal feels ok,then your car probably needs a clutch replacement.
Phone a few garages for estimates.

If it happens during driving especially if you have to stop and start alot it could be when the clutch warms up.
do yo drive with your foot on the clutch? because by doing that the gears will stick. It happend to me and i couldnt understand it when my other half drove the car and it never happen. i paid £500 to get the gearbox looked at and it turned out it was just me with my foot on the clutch. Now i dont do it and the car has been fine!!
