ford escort air bag light flashing?

my M reg escort air bag light has started flashing last night , also the red light on the dash does not flash any more when doors locked or come on when igniton is turned on , does any one have any idea what could cause this ?

forgot to say air bag light flashes in intervales of 4 flashes
 
connect it to a ngs scanner and run the codes i seen alot of problems with the clockspring in the steering column
