Ok, after listening to the previous answers, I changed the air filter, fuel filter, oil and oil filter changed, but no resolution. So I took it back to the mechanic for further diagnostics.
What the found is the catalytic converts are the problem. They are going to change the rear one hoping what ever has clogged it has blown everything out that is going to be blown. Basically we're hoping the front catalytic converts won't have to be replaced at about $3000. If those have to be replaced, I'll probably end up having to just get a new vehicle.
My question is, can anyone give me an idea if odds of this working are pretty good? I'm hoping someone will come in here and say that "Yes, this is pretty successful"
The $3000 is for the upstream converters on the manifold (IIRC). Replacing the back converter (the clogged one) is running me $300.
