Ford econaline van 351w i need help?

I need help. Well i floored it today and smelled a funny smell. Now to meter where it shows to motor hot or cold its stuck on COLD and when u try to drive it it seems powerless unless u put in n and floor it them drop it in drive them about 5-10 seconds u loose power. And when u go to take ur foot off of the gas it seems like its gonna go then dont any help??
 
Were there any other symptoms other than a nasty smell? I don't think dropping the hammer could have wrecked anything too much. I highly recommend against racing the engine and dropping the van into drive. That's going to do nothing more than cause damage to the drivetrain. Look around to see if anything is leaking, and also see if your fluid levels are full/within specs.
