FORD COUGAR V62.5: sometimes my dads car idles irratically....? [REPOST]?

and when he comes to a junction, it cuts out, but starts up okay, but it will not tick over properly. The idling speed is sometimes okay, but sometimes irratic.

What could be the cause?
its got plenty of power.
 
Could be a vacuum leak, does it have as much power as its supposed to or does it seem to be lacking?
