I am trying to mate a Power Master starter to a 184 tooth ring gear. I had an original old model 460. Eng. I acquired a 4 speed top loader trans , bell housing, 184 tooth flywheel. I purchased a powermaster starter and after 8 starts the starter gear and ring gear were worn out. Are all standard flywheel ring gear 184 tooth. It seems as if the two pieces don,t match and yet Powermaster says there is only 1 starter for the 460. Is there a different ring gear for the 460 ( how many teeth)?
Where can I buy a ring gear for this application? Piston Ring says it should be an 180 tooth ring gear. Ford has a gear but dosen,t know the no. of teeth.
