Force Unleashed 2: How do you stay alive on top the air car (read details)?

In the 2nd level of the game, there is a part where your chasing the commander, and you get ontop this air transport. But first about 6 or so flights of tie fighters attack and you can force destroy those.. then a gunship comes in and blasts away with guns and missles.

I know its possilble to deflect the missles, but can you stop the guns? I have tried 5 times and died each time.
