Force N73 to re-register to a network w/o turning off?

Hi folks, my biggest inconvenience with N73 that during my commute to/from work I spend over 1.5 hrs underground with some two-tree minutes traveling above the ground (like bridges, etc.) sometimes I need to make a short call or even sent an SMS but very often it takes too long for the phone to re-register to a network and I?m out of time to make a call. One way is to turn the phone off in advance and wait until I almost get a bridge and turn it on. So by the time I?m above the ground my N73 detects a network and I can make a short call. But it?s pain in a neck is any other way to force phone look for a network without turning it off/on? Any code tricks or third party apps will do it for me. Thanks

If you go to tools> settings> network > Operator Selection, and change it to Manual it will immediately start searching for available networks... change it back to Automatic when you are done with the call you need to make.

i've had to do the general->offline->general before. it works but if you don't have a signal... don't be surprised if the phone restarts all by itself.

you can also change your time and date settings to automatic (or off then back to automatic). this causes the phone to re-register with the network to get the time and date. i actually think this works better than the offline/online thing because i've tried it... but YMMV.

Thanks all. i have tried today every single method and all of them worked just fine. including offline/general even without network present -- the phone DOES NOT restart (i have the latest FW V 3.0649.0.0.1 BWT is this the latest? ) and it's my fav. method for now due to simplicity, BUT, i did turned off the phone by accident and missed "communication" spot due to restating time is tooooooooo long. so i might adopt "apdate time" method, considering you cannot forget to leave the phone in offline mode by accident.

THANKS a lot all

Im surprised your phone even has trouble just detecting a network when it lost the connection.

You should try doing manual network search and sticking to one network. It might speed the reconnection process up if there are many networks for your phone to chose from.

I often take the subway and my E61 never had an issue with getting connected in no time.

I never had this problem with my E61 but always had the problem with my N73. Elevators were always a killer. A 20 second elevator ride would force me to reboot as it wouldnt find a network. I ended up just shutting it off when I thought it would lose signal and just reboot when I was about to get off. In fact, I would shut it off as I got on the elevator and immediately turn it back on. By the time the elevator ride was over, the phone would finally boot and find the signal.

I DO NOT have problemreconnecting when i lost signal for few moments/minutes, but long underground trips (i would say when staying w/o signal for longer than 20 mins -- that's a killer for me (and N73 is not in sleep mode as i play games or MP3 all trip. I also trying to close all apps when getting out of a tunnel to free up some memory -- no luck, it's takes more than a minute, sometimes two full minutes to re-register). i remember sticking to manual mode helped me a bit, BUT it's drains battery during my commute and i'm on T-mobile in USA. t-mo utilizes two netwarks (ATT and T-mo), so in automode i'm taking advantage of two networks. AND if i loose the network "select Network Operator" popping-up then and now and bothering me even more then anything else.

Thanks
