For those who say there is no political motive in relation to the Obama...

...education speech please explain your? view of the text below taken directly from the plan?

"Write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president. These would be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals."

That part of the lesson plan was removed and revised today to students setting personal short and long range goals for themselves. Please keep up with the news. The entire speech will be on line Monday so it might help to read it before commenting any further.

Reagan, Bush, Carter and Kennedy all gave addresses to school kids. How about taking historical tradition into account and quit nitpicking Obama.

And that wording has been changed to "write letters to themselves about what they can do to achieve their goals."

What's most amazing to me about this whole discussion is that suddenly the Republicans are asking their kids not to respect the Office of the President as a source of guidance on something as uncontroversial as education.

Come on, guys. It's personal with Obama, and you know it. You just don't like the guy, and you don't care if he's saying something you'd tell your kids yourselves.

They are trying to get kids interested in politics and government who otherwise wouldn't be.
The "President" IS the leader of our country (which everybody seems to understand except you guys suddenly - after blindly following every idiotic thing Bush did without question for 8 years).
It means the same thing as saying what can you do to help your country and government.

Write letters to themselves about how they can achieve their short‐term and long‐term education goals. Teachers would collect and redistribute these letters at an appropriate later date to enable students to monitor their progress.

You are lying. I copied the above DIRECTLY FROM YOUR LINK. You have willfully changed the wording to manipulate its meaning and the people on Y!A. Why would you need to do that if your stance on this issue is so correct?

Hmm, making a kid think about what's wrong in the small slice of the world they do understand and consider ways to fix the problem. How dare the government try to prepare our children for real world situations!

The letters are redistributed to the students so that they can remember their ideas later and see if they've improved on them or if they still agree with them. Honestly, why does that part in particular bother you so much?

If Bush said that in 2003 to promote the war in Iraq you would be first in line to help volunteer.

Hypocritcal much?

Only Republican presideents should be respected?

Serioulsy your hysterical fear from buying just ANYHING Glen Beck spews is very sad. What insurance company are you a schill for?

To those commenting "That has been taken out of his speech". What I am concerned about is what he will put into his speech. If he can take it out he sure as hell can put it in.

I neither like or trust this character.

Boy, it would have given your argument a lot more credence if you decided to actually quote something from the proposed lesson plans.

Here's what it actually says, which isn't even close to what the republican propaganda, and you, has been quoting.

"Write letters to themselves about how they can achieve their short‐term and long‐term education goals. Teachers would collect and redistribute these letters at an appropriate later date to enable students to monitor their progress."

Please stop perpetuating misinformation.
