For the right-hand rule, what does the thumb, palm, and fingers represent?

There are three right-hand rules, but my physics teacher combined all three into one that is easy to remember.
He said thumb = motion of + particles,
palm = direction of force exerted on these + particles,
and fingers = direction of magnetic field
What else can these three components represent, and what does each right-hand rule describe (e.g. I know the first one deals with connections between current, magnetic field, and force; what about 2 and 3?)? Thanks for any help.
