For or Against Gay Marriage

I guess that was for me.......

The last national polls I saw showed that over 60 percent of the people in this country are against gay marriage.....That is also backed up by a federal DOMA against gay marriage and 38 states having their own DOMAs and climbing......In additon states are passing by a huge majorities amendments banning gay marriage..So the polls that favor them must be in your dreams.........

Yes that is true I served 21 years fighting only for the country I love, the USA........

Sorry, I wasn't born yet, but my father was in the South Pacific fighting on a little island that you may have heard of. It was called Iwo Jima. It was in all of the papers. At the end of the war, he was still in the South Pacific with the Allied Fleet preparing for the invasion of Japan. And I can guarantee you that if my father was alive today, he'd vote against gay marriage as would most of his contemporaries, so lose the holier than thou attitude lady.

Those claims may be suspect. Perhaps they were never gay to begin with, or perhaps they only have outward appearances with their family and different sex partner by their side. Many people do it that way, for the sake of appearances, and keep their same-sex relationships secret. The point is, the so-called "conversion" programs, which are the only ones making this claim, haven't proven their claims by a reputable, peer-reviewed study. There is much criticism of these programs because they use guilt and make negative generalizatons about what it means to be gay. Why do they have to do all this negative convincing, if being gay or straight is a simple, conscious choice? They would not. One would simply choose to be straight or gay, based on the merits of either being straight or being gay. The choice would not be based on detracting and teaching guilt about one or the other.

At any rate, you avoid the real point here. Because someone can convert, doesn't mean that person should. People may convert from being straight to being gay, or from being Jewish to being Christian. This does not mean that their original identity isn't important to them while they have it. This does not mean that everyone should convert to be what you want them to be. Their identity may be different than your identity, but that doesn't make it any less valuable. What if they like who they are, and don't want to change to be as you are? In that case you want them to have less equality. Why is that? Do you view who they are as less valuable than who you are?

There are just as many authorities that say being gay is a choice as there are that says your born that way...........Fact is no one knows for sure but it has to be disturbing to gays that believe they were born that way that so many have converted to a straight lifestyle, raised families and had a normal life....

First of all, I'm not assigning "evil or wrong" to anything. So- Don't mischaracterize my posts to claim that I am.

Secondly, you have just confirmed something that we all know to be true.

The government has the right, the power, the authority to draw the line SOMEWHERE.

For you, 1 in a billion is acceptable for other's it's somewhere else. But we both agree that lines must be drawn and the government has the power and the authority and (by logical extent) the discretion to do so.

Thanks for helping me make that point, though I'm sure you didn't intend to do so.

I don't have to cite a link. Ummarried people who put their partner on their health plan have to pay taxes on their contribution. Married couples do not have to. Since gay couples aren't allowed to marry, the benefit is clearly unequal.

The problem is that the courts are using the 14th amendment as an empty vessel into which they can pour anything that strikes their fancy. That amendment was ratified in 1868, and there is no chance at all that the voters of that time would have wanted to see it used to justify something as absurd as gay "marriage." The judges need to stick to interpreting the law, and not usurp the people's prerogative of setting social policy. And if they don't understand that, we shall have to explain it them in a way that even they can understand.

Just leave it at this. We're in modern times now. People now have more freedom now than ever. Even if Bush does pass a law against gays, people of same sex will still live together. "Marriage" is just the legal declaration for it.

Deists who specifically acknowledged God and Jesus Christ as the Almighty. That was their deity. You saw the quotes; I'm assuming that you can read. But in case you missed the pertinent text, I emboldened it for you.

Being heartily sorry from the bottom of my heart for my sins past, most humbly desiring forgiveness of the same from Almighty God, my Savior and Redeemer in Whom and bye the merits of Jesus Christ, I trust and believe assuredly to be saved and to have full remission and forgiveness of all my sins."
